REACT Facility Role

Re-Entry and Enhanced Alternatives to Custody Training (REACT) is operated by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office at 194 E. Hackett Road in Modesto. The official page lists Facility Commander Lieutenant Maxwell. REACT opened in 2018 and is described as an innovative, program-based detention facility with an open dayroom environment. It is not a CDCR prison and not a federal facility.

REACT's purpose is different from SDC-East, SDC-West, and the Minimum Housing Units. It focuses on reentry and alternatives to custody, including educational opportunities, vocational opportunities, home detention connections, and alternative work-program paths. People assigned to REACT remain part of the county detention system, and the Sheriff's roster is still the public lookup path for active custody information.

The facility sits next to the main detention campus, close to the Sheriff's other Hackett Road buildings. That location matters for visitors and family members because facility names can be similar in roster results, but REACT has its own address, phone number, visiting setup, and program focus.

REACT Rated Capacity

The official REACT facility page lists a rated capacity of 288. The research did not locate a current daily REACT population count. Because REACT includes reentry and alternative-custody connections, its role should not be read as identical to a standard jail housing unit even though it remains part of the Sheriff's detention system.

The Sheriff's broader Adult Detention Division materials say the county cares for more than 1,400 pre-trial, sentenced, and out-of-custody incarcerated persons at any given time. REACT is one part of that system, especially for program-based detention and alternatives that support release planning and work obligations.

Look Up REACT Inmates

REACT uses the same Stanislaus County Sheriff's Who's in Jail roster as the other county detention facilities. Search by name, date of birth, or seven-digit booking number. A full booking detail can list facility, booking date, release date, arresting agency, charge, case number, bail, and court date. Confirm the facility field before arranging visits, mail, or deposits.

2. Search by booking number if known, or use name and date of birth.
3. Filter by REACT only when the assignment is already known.
4. Open the full booking detail and confirm the listed facility.
5. Check release date and court-date fields before calling for follow-up.

When a person no longer appears in the county roster, the next step depends on the custody path. State prison commitments use CDCR CIRIS. Federal custody uses BOP. Immigration detention uses ICE ODLS.

REACT Address and Contact

REACT has its own street address and phone number next to the main detention campus. Use the facility number for questions about a person assigned to REACT, visiting, and program-related custody routing. For formal arrest records or incarceration letters, use the Sheriff's Records Division process rather than treating a phone call as a records request.

REACT Visitation Rules

REACT video visitation is through JailATM. The Sheriff's REACT details mirror SDC-East for video visiting: no visiting on Wednesdays, the video visit week runs Saturday through Sunday, and each incarcerated person receives two free 30-minute visits each week. Extra visits are paid per minute. Visitor approval is still required before visits can be scheduled.

General Stanislaus County visitor rules apply to REACT. Visitors must submit complete request forms, use an email address for registration, present valid government ID, follow dress rules, and avoid barred property. Minors must be listed on the request form and accompanied by an approved parent or legal guardian with proof of relationship or guardianship.

REACT Mail and Money

REACT follows the county detention mail system. Personal mail goes to the JailATM central processing address and must include the incarcerated person's name and booking number. Books, legal mail, Medi-Cal cards, and welfare cards are exceptions and go to the Sheriff's Detention Center street address listed by the county. Outgoing mail can be searched for contraband and scanned for security issues, while legal mail is checked for contraband but not read or scanned.

TouchPay deposits are available through online, phone, and kiosk channels using the county facility locator number. The REACT lobby is one of the kiosk locations listed in the research. The Sheriff's materials also describe JailATM messaging and ICSolutions phone accounts. Program assignment does not remove the need to follow these account and provider rules.

REACT Alternative Custody

The Jail Alternatives Unit materials add two program paths tied to REACT's purpose: Home Detention and the Alternative Work Program. Home Detention allows an inmate to serve a sentence at home while maintaining regular work. The Alternative Work Program allows eight to ten hours of general labor for each day of jail time. Both paths are case-by-case, and neither is automatic.

Eligibility factors include the severity of the current charge, circumstances of the case, victim impact, criminal history, prior program participation, and in-custody behavior. Placement is made in the interest of public safety. The Sheriff's Department has sole discretion to approve or deny participation, and the research states that the programs are privileges rather than rights. Forms must be delivered in person with supporting documentation, and incomplete applications are not accepted.

REACT Programs and Reentry

REACT's local importance comes from its program-based design. The open dayroom environment supports education, vocational work, reentry planning, and alternative-custody connections. The Sheriff's detention program materials also list Breaking Barriers, high school equivalency, E.L.S.E., Parenting, Alcoholics Anonymous, Women of Wisdom, Narcotics Anonymous, chaplain services, and housing-area programming.

Program access can be limited or stopped for safety, security, volunteer safety, staff safety, or good order. The Facility Commander or designee is responsible for program establishment, scheduling, coordination, and monitoring. Custody staff can document concerns and route them through command channels. That makes REACT a program-focused setting, but still one governed by custody rules and Sheriff's classification decisions.
